Superpower ChatGPT vs AI Toolbox vs TidyChats: an honest comparison
By The TidyChats founder · · 7 min read
If you only use ChatGPT and want a feature-rich extension built only for ChatGPT, start with Superpower ChatGPT. If you also use Claude, Gemini or Grok, AI Toolbox and TidyChats both cover all four, and at the time of writing their free limits and prices are identical, so the decision comes down to specific features and how each handles your data. If all you need is to export chats, a dedicated exporter is simpler, and if you only use Gemini, the free and open-source Voyager is worth a look.
A disclosure before anything else: I build TidyChats. I've tried to make this useful even if you end up choosing something else. Competitor facts below come from their own pricing and FAQ pages at the time of writing (linked), TidyChats facts come from our own code, and I'll say where another tool fits better. Prices and limits change often, so check the linked pages before you pay for anything.

Superpower ChatGPT: the pick if you only use ChatGPT
Superpower ChatGPT focuses on one assistant, and for some people that's exactly right. If ChatGPT is the only AI you use, multi-platform support doesn't buy you anything.
A few things stand out from its pricing page at the time of writing:
- The free tier is more generous on organizing than AI Toolbox or TidyChats: 5 folders and 5 prompts, versus 2 and 2.
- It runs on Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave. If you're on Firefox, that alone may decide it, since TidyChats is built as a Chrome extension.
- Pro is $10 a month or $120 a year, and export to PDF, Markdown and JSON is a Pro feature.
- On data, it says it keeps things local "when possible". If data handling matters to you, their privacy policy spells out the details.
My recommendation: if you're a ChatGPT-only power user, try Superpower first. If you later add Claude or Gemini to your routine, that's the point to look at the multi-platform options.
AI Toolbox and TidyChats: same price, so compare the details
At the time of writing, AI Toolbox and TidyChats have the same free limits (2 top-level folders, 5 search results, 2 saved prompts) and the same prices ($9.99 a month, $59 a year or $99 lifetime per platform, and $199 for all four). Both keep chat content in your browser. AI Toolbox's FAQ says metadata syncs to its servers encrypted. TidyChats syncs folders, prompts and settings only if you sign in, encrypted at rest on our server (not end-to-end). On price and the headline free limits, there's nothing to choose between them.
I can't give you a reliable feature-by-feature verdict on AI Toolbox, because I only know its product from the outside. What I can do is list a few TidyChats details, from our code, so you can hold them up against AI Toolbox's FAQ and see which matters to you:
- Past chats as context across assistants. Type @@ in the chat box to pull an extract of an earlier chat into a new one, for example a ChatGPT chat into Claude. Free gets 3 per day per platform.
- Bulk delete scope. Bulk delete and archive on ChatGPT, bulk delete only on Claude, and neither on Gemini or Grok. Free acts on 5 chats at a time.
- Grok on x.com as well as grok.com, counted as one platform, so folders and prompts are shared between them.
- No account for free features. Everything on the free plan works without signing in. Signing in turns on sync.
And the limits I'd want to know about if I were choosing:
- ChatGPT full-text indexing is deliberately slow, because ChatGPT limits how fast chats can be read. Large histories can take hours. Importing ChatGPT's own data export is the faster route.
- Gemini and Grok sync relies on their undocumented internal web APIs, so a site change can break it for a while.
- Premium AI summaries (used for long @@ mentions and for carrying a chat forward) send the chosen chat's text to our server. Everyone else gets a summary built locally in the browser.
- Pricing is per platform. If you want Premium on two assistants, you pay for two, unless you buy All Access Lifetime.
My suggestion: install the free versions of both, use them on your real chats for a week, and keep the one whose interface you actually reach for. With identical pricing, how the tool feels in daily use is a fair tiebreaker. Our comparison page and features page have more detail on the TidyChats side.
Other tools that fit specific needs
The three above aren't the only options, and for some needs a narrower tool is better. At the time of writing:
- Sortbase covers the same four assistants and, at the time of writing, costs $10 a month or $100 a year. It has a 7-day trial, which asks for a card.
- ChatGPT Exporter is focused on exporting. If export is the only thing you're missing, a single-purpose tool is easier than a full organizer. Also remember ChatGPT's own export under Settings → Data controls → Export is free, though OpenAI's export guide says it can take up to 7 days to arrive.
- Voyager for Gemini is free and open source. If Gemini is your only assistant and you don't want to pay anything, I'd look there first. Gemini Chat Folders is another Gemini-only option.
What I'd check before installing any of them
These checks apply whichever extension you're looking at, mine included.
Start with what's built in. ChatGPT's organization is built around Projects, and its search got two updates this year, according to the release notes. If those already cover you, you may not need an extension at all. My post on searching your ChatGPT history includes a quick test to see whether native search finds what you need.
Then ask the data questions:
- Where does chat content live: in your browser, or on the extension's servers?
- What syncs to their servers, and is it encrypted at rest or end-to-end?
- Does any feature send chat text to an AI service, and is that optional?
- Can you export your folders and prompts if you leave?
Finally, match the free tier to how you work. If two top-level folders and five search results cover your week, you might never need to pay. If you mainly want to clear out old chats, check bulk delete support for your assistant first. It differs a lot between platforms, as I cover in how to delete multiple ChatGPT chats without deleting all.
